Wiper And True

Inclusive Beer Culture

After an intense three-month design phase, we delivered a 12,000sq/ft taproom and Bristol’s biggest beer garden just in time for the summer.

We worked collaboratively with the Wiper And True team who were brimming with ideas and passion for building a brewery that was a brand showpiece and an open and inclusive space to people from all walks of life.

The biggest feature of the space is an 18m steel and glass dividing wall that we designed to simultaneously showcase the brewery and separate it from the taproom. Two, new openings were cut into the side of the building and services were taken as high as possible to create an airy flooded with natural light.

Inclusivity at heart

Possibly Bristol's most gender-neutral toilets, the existing factory toilet block was extensively reworked for high capacity, zero-judgement use.

Instead of categorising rooms based on gender, we simply labelled them toilets and urinal allowing the user to choose their preference between a communal room or one of the ample self-contained toilets with basin and full-height door.

This was an area of much discussion on how to get it right but working with the Wiper True team was an inspirational process, despite the challenges that arose, they never allowed their unwavering moral compass to slip off their true North.
