A portmanteau of Dorset and Sushi, Dorshi began life as an East-meets-West sushi pop-up run by Radhika and Jollyon. Think British fish, locally harvested laver, and pearl barley instead of rice; it was excellent. They’ve since journeyed expertly through a variety of East Asian inspired cuisines before reaching out to us for help aligning years of ultra high-quality development into a more casual offer. Their menu is now focused on their best and favourite mixture of dumplings and ‘not-dumplings’ – small plates to accompany an extensive cocktail menu.
Mostly seen through their range of incredible condiments, the identity centres on Radhika’s nostalgia for the unusual, cryptic, and downright bizarre packaging found around East Asia. Eclectic and odd illustrations with vernacular typography, cheap substrates, and Risograph printing – the identity aims to capture the imperfections, textures, and makeshift attitude of all that ephemera. Despite the incredible craft and care that goes into their food, Dorshi is after all a celebration of the low-brow, everyday food culture of East Asia, the izakaya, mamaks, dim sum joints, som tum shops, gogi-gui, shokudo, hustling street vendors, and bustling night markets.
